iPhone Sales & Scanning
Sell or scan tickets using just your iPhone with Tap to Pay support or a Square Reader.
While an iPad Box Office is great for streamlining walk up sales, sometimes you'd also like to have a completely mobile setup with an iPhone.
We find this setup to be particularly useful in two ways:
If you'd like to have other members of your team, like managers, assist with sales if lines get too long.
If you'd like a separate "Online Check-In" line.
Recommended Hardware
While the Box Office app works with any modern iOS device (recommended 13+), our recommendation is buying a cheaper model and pairing it with a rugged case. We tend to buy ours refurbished as well to save some money.
iPhone 16e Refurbished ($320-380)
Get the version that works with your cell carrier if you'll be using cell service, otherwise you can just connect them to WiFi.
OtterBox Defender Case ($45)
Optional: Square Reader ($50)
If this is for a "walking sales" setup, you should use the built-in Apple Tap to Pay on your iPhone instead.
Recommended for Online Check-In lines where you'd also like to take mobile payments, the Square Reader allows you to easily take contactless and chip payments.
We also recommend you get a heavyweight charging dock ($17) for the Square Reader.
Setup
To complete set up, you'll need to have already connected your Square merchant account in the ScaryGood Dashboard.
The first step is installing the ScaryGood Box Office app from the iOS App Store. After you install it, you'll need to log in with the same email and password that you use for the Dashboard.
Download the iOS AppAfter installing, you'll be guided through the initial setup right in the app.
Connecting Square Readers (Optional)
To connect a Square Reader to your device, open the Settings page of the Box Office app and click on "Square Settings" to pair a new Reader.

Physical Scanner Phone Case
We recommend only buying this if you find you have problems using the built-in camera scanner.
While the built-in camera scanner on the iPhone works amazingly well (especially since it has a flashlight toggle), we have tested the SocketMobile DuraSled DS840 ($370) for iPhone 16e and it works well if you'd prefer a physical scanner.
Follow the instructions to set up a Bluetooth Scanner in order to use the DS840. Double click the power button to enable the iOS Keyboard. You can use the following configuration barcodes before setup:
